The Netherlands and Maluku are connected by more than one historical route. Centuries after spices linked the regions through trade and empire, postcolonial migration created another relationship carried through people and families. The Moluccan presence in the Netherlands produced communities, neighbourhoods, organizations, music, food, memory and political identity. These histories should not be collapsed into one continuous story. The VOC era, military service, decolonization, the 1951 arrival and later generations belong to different political contexts. World of MATAGI can make the repeated connection visible without pretending the causes were the same. A deeper layer should document KNIL history, the 1951 arrival, camps, woonoorden, wijken and later generations through dedicated sources. The useful idea is continuity through changing routes. The same two places can remain connected over centuries for radically different reasons — commodity, state, migration, family and culture.
