A fragrance can be cultural history and a technology story at the same time. Distillation changed the possibilities of aromatic materials by creating new ways to separate and collect volatile compounds. Museum histories connect the development and circulation of distillation techniques with scientific traditions in the Islamic world and later medieval Europe. That matters because perfume does not emerge from ingredients alone. Extraction methods determine what can be captured, concentrated, stored and combined. A flower and the technology used to process it belong to the same material system. World of MATAGI should therefore resist the habit of placing “beauty” on one side and “science” on the other. The still, vessel and process are part of fragrance history just as much as the finished scent. A deeper research layer can investigate particular scholars, apparatus and texts — including figures and technologies named in the expansion seed — only where dedicated sources support the chronology. The larger point is already clear: changes in process can create changes in creative possibility. New extraction technology expands the perfumer’s palette before a consumer ever smells the result.
